Datagard online backup for Real Estate businesses

Before speaking to Datagard, most of our Queensland Real Estate clients did not know about the policies in the Property Agents & Motor Dealers Act (PAMD) relating to backup.

Trust accounts, contracts, customer databases... Real Estate professionals are responsible for critical data, with a particular responsibility to deliver privacy and security.

Besides the practical argument for an offsite and automated backup system, in order to comply with the PAMD, Queensland Real Estate licencees must ensure their backups are offsite, secure and consistent.

The Act states:-

If a document is stored in electronic form in a computer, the principal licensee must ensure that: -

1. the computer system has enough capacity and backup capability to record the information require  to be kept under the Act; and
2. the computer system is backedup at least once a month; and
3. a computer disk or other electronic device used to store the backed-up information is kept in a location that -
• is not the licensee’s principal place of business or the licensee’s agent’s business address; and
• is unaffected by magnetic interference or other thing that may adversely affect the stored information.
